How to import Project Components as Excel File back into MaxQDA?

I use MaxQDA for my research projects. I currently use other software like R, and local AI-agents like Llama models to execute tasks that help me in the coding process (e.g., segmenting transcripts according to some criteria). My issue is the following:

- MaxQDA allows to export full project data in Excel format ("Export Project Components as Excel File" in Reports menu). Notably, this allows to export retrieved coded segments with document, code, beginning, end of the codes assignment, segment of text assigned to the code and other information. All this information is very useful if one wants to work on it with other software.
- However, the problem comes in when one wants to re-import back to MaxQDA such a Project Components Excel format project file after modifying some of this coded data with other software. How can one re-import back into MaxQDA this type of Project Component file and have MaxQDA recognize the coding produced elsewhere but respecting the MaxQDA required format? Why is it possible to export this data in Excel format, but one cannot import data in a similar format back to MaxQDA? Is there a way to go around this problem?

Solving this problem would be very useful for people that would want to use other software, or even local AI-agents (key for reproducibility) to execute some repetitive coding tasks, and have them imported back into MaxQDA. Thanks for your help!

An alternative for working with coding/coded segments outside MaxQDA and re-import them back into MaxQDA would be to use .txt files or other compatible document formats respecting the coding syntax that MaxQDA can recognize, and import them back. A suggestion on how to do that can be found in this other thread: Importing pre-coded documents? : MAXQDA Support
