Dear MAXQDA Community,

I am working with MAXQDA and would like to create a table that displays the "Count per Category", showing the frequency of different codes or categories in my dataset.

Could someone guide me on how to generate such a table? Which tools or functions within MAXQDA should I use to extract this summary?

Any tips or step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated!

Best regards,
Michael

Hi Michael,

You may check this function out: https://www.maxqda.com/help-mx24/maxdictio/the-category-matrix-browser

Hope it answers your question regarding count per category.

Please let us know if you have any further questions!

Kind regards,

Dear Khaled,

Thank you for your response and the explanation regarding the Subcode Statistics function. I tried following your instructions, but I am still having trouble seeing the exact count per category displayed in a structured table format.

Could you clarify whether there is an option to export this data directly as a table? Also, is it possible to generate this overview across multiple categories at once?

I appreciate your guidance and look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Michael

Hi Michael,

I apologize for any misunderstanding.

To create a "Count per Category" table in MAXQDA Tailwind, follow these steps:

1. Open MAXQDA Tailwind and load your project.

2. Create a Summary Table: Go to the Summary Tables Dashboard.

3. Add Data: Select the documents you want to include.

4. Add Topics: Choose the topics or categories you want to analyze.

5. Generate Table: The AI will fill the table with summaries and counts for each category.

This will help you create a structured table similar to the one shown.

Dear Khaled,

Thank you for your response!

I was actually referring to MAXQDA Tailwind, not the standard MAXQDA software.... sorry
Could you let me know if i can also do the same in Tailwind or if there are any workarounds?

Best regards,
Michael

Dear Michael,

To create a table displaying the "Count per Category" in MAXQDA, you can use the Subcode Statistics function. Here's how:

1. From the Codes menu tab, select Subcode Statistics.

2. Choose the category or categories you want to analyze in the left window.

3. Select Documents (count all subcodes) as the analysis unit.

4. The output table will show the frequencies of the subcodes, and you can switch to the chart view for a visual representation.

This will help you summarize and visualize the frequency of different codes or categories in your dataset.

Hope this answers your question.

Kind regards,

Khaled
