If you are experiencing issues with MAXQDA, don't worry! We are happy to help you troubleshoot and resolve any problems. Below you will find some common steps to get MAXQDA running smoothly again.

1. Check system requirements
Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for running MAXQDA. This includes checking your operating system version, RAM, and available hard drive storage.

2. Update MAXQDA
Sometimes issues arise from using an outdated version of the software. Check for updates by selecting "Check for Updates" in the "Help" menu (question mark icon at the bottom left of the software interface). Installing the latest version can often fix bugs and improve performance.

3. Restart your computer
A simple restart can resolve many software issues. If you haven't done so already, save your work and restart your computer to eliminate any temporary glitches that may be affecting MAXQDA.

4. Reset user settings
Open MAXQDA and select at the very bottom left of the program: Settings > Interface > Reset Window Settings.

5. Repair the project file
Create a new project and then select Start > Merge Project. Then select the problematic project. The merge process will rebuild the project file and may resolve errors within it. Please note that corrupted data may be deleted in the process. For this reason, a backup of your project is automatically created before the merge.

6. Reinstall MAXQDA
If the issue persists, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling MAXQDA. This can help fix corrupted files or settings that may be causing the software to malfunction. Make sure to back up your projects before proceeding with the reinstallation.

7. Check for software conflicts
Sometimes other software applications can interfere with MAXQDA's functionality. Make sure no other programs are running that could conflict with MAXQDA, particularly antivirus or firewall software. Temporarily disabling these programs can help determine whether they are the cause of the issue.
